The third batch of Enchiridion, our blend of single, double, and triple bourbon barrel-aged stouts, is here! Inspired by the process of making Lief, our Méthode Traditionelle - 3 year blend, Enchiridion is similarly a blend of one-, two-, and three-year old beer. We wanted to try this blending process with a stout, but introduce something different along the way. Each year, the stouts that make up Enchiridion are placed into a new barrel for maximum barrel impact: tannin, bourbon character, and long-term mellowing of the stout. For 2023's version, the single barrel portion was aged in 1910 Old Forester; the double barrel was aged in Heaven Hill, then Eagle Rare barrels; and the triple barrel was aged in Elijah Craig 10-year, then Old Fitzgerald, then Cutwater Bourbon barrels. Altogether, character from six(!) bourbon barrels went into this unique stout. A celebration of long-awaited bourbon complexity arises with aromas of toasted oak, crème brûlée, and fudge, followed by flavors of toffee, fig, and toasted coconut.
