Sour ale with gooseberries from this innovative Irish brewery, apparently only kegged and bottled at first, but now canned as well - bought from BeerFreakChick, cheers Dinka! Egg-white, regularly shaped, beaten egg-like and stable, firm head on a hazy apricot blonde beer with vaguely khaki-like tinge, showing disparate yet fierce strings of sparkling here and there. Aroma of lots of green gooseberries in a ripe, even 'stewed' kind of way, next to apple juice, Chardonnay, young tree leaves in spring, Cape gooseberries, kefir, soggy white bread, stewed rhubarb, yuzu, field flowers. Very crisp and bright onset with a very high amount of effervescence - spritzy, but also numbing a bit at first; lots of soft, ripe, almost (but not quite) sweet gooseberry, hints of pear and white grape as well, slender yet sufficiently 'filling' mouthfeel, coarsened a bit by the strong carbonation. A lovely fruity, eventually even citric tartness and lactic, kefir-like sourness runs over a lean white-bready core, with the fruity juiciness continuing well into the finish, establishing considerable refreshment; gooseberry seeds add a very light, but important touch of bitterness in the end, only adding to the quenching effect, while citric and vaguely chalky accents linger in the background. I would have to check how many gooseberry-fruited sours I had, there certainly aren't too many around, but this one is in any case extremely bright and refreshing, utterly elegant and perfectly quenching on one of the first truly benign days of spring. Spring in a can, in a way, lovely!

Large can. BBF 08/2020. Nose is glue, harsh acidic, basic & unripe gooseberry. Fizzy weird chemical soapy with harsh acidity, unripe gooseberry, glue, bit too much in many areas, too soapy, washing product.
