It’s insane to think that seven years ago we came into the beer world as a two man operation armed with five canned beers to turn people’s heads with.

Sure the majority of those beers were the hop-forward modern IPAs and Pale Ales we’d become famous for, but amongst the light was a dark beer that was a favourite amongst the fledgling Polly’s team, a breakfast stout.

A style that we’ve incredibly never revisited in the following seven years for varying reasons, we’re back with abundance on this beer and bringing seven year’s worth of brewing knowledge with it. Largely letting the malt do the talking on this beer, we’ve brought – take a deep breath – DRC Malt, Crisp Brown, Chocolate, Carafa Special III, Amber Malt, Pale Chocolate, Black Malt, and Naked Oats to the party on this grist bill, before treating with fresh Madagascan vanilla pods and a lashing of milk sugar to thicken this stout up to the max whilst maintaining its drinkability to the max.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours black with big beige head. Aroma of coffee, tobacco, ash, artificial vanilla aroma. Tastes pretty sweet with some bitterness. Medium bodied, alcoholic warmth, sweet finish. The beer is somewhat unbalanced - without vanilla aroma, it would be almost undrinkable because of too much tobacco and ash aroma. The vanilla aroma is, on the other hand, far too dominant.
