Blonde Barley Wine-Style ale
Inspired by an iconic cocktail with a twist of what a modern beer should taste like. A barley wine-style ale shaken up with natural bourbon type flavoring, honey, lemon and cinnamon. It's sweet, it's sour and rich with nostalgia.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to snifter.
Appearance: more of amber sort of color with a half a finger of white foamy head which slid off as expected at a decent pace to barely leave any lace
Aroma: honey, bourbon dry woodiness; dried fruity character; toffee and burnt marshmallows
Flavor: meshes the prior noted aromas to an odd sort of sweet to leafy/plant-like sweetness; finishes like toasted marshmallows soaked in honey
Texture: medium bodied - I think or maybe a touch over; leaning towards being a sipper; some smoothness along the tongue but also some of that leafy/plant character coming back to scrape my tongue a bit
Overall: did they put cactus in this? lol, something's messing with me with this beer and I can't quite right tell exactly what it is. Every time I say to myself "oh God, here's another weirdo beer by Evil Twin, let's try to shove this down my throat" - what do I do - why yes, I go and try it. I doubt if I would come back to this.

1 pint can. Pours a copper color with floaters and marginal head. Aromas of sweet toasted malts, postage stamps and dried orange peel. Flavors of burnt orange, a bit of phenolics, and mushy toasted malts. Not sure if this was intended or should have been canned…

It’s Hot Toddy weather, don’t have that but I’ve got the next best thing... Evil Twin Hot Toddy-ish 10% Blonde Barleywine Style Ale This orange-amber brew has a wisp of light beige foam and a sharply malty lemon aroma. Full body and smooth flavor of dark candies fruits with tangy lemon and bourbon like booziness. Hot (nuked for 30 seconds) it smells like boozy mulled wine and tastes sharp, it’s not beer like anymore and probably closer to a hot toddy. Silky smooth body remains and it gives you a pleasing warmth in your belly. Either hot or cold it’s a nice sipper while stating our at the falling snow.

Can sourced from Kihoskh and shared at home (31/10/2020) - amber pour with a off-white head. Very sweet malty with notes of dried fruit shred, caramel and toffee, toasted malty with ashy light burnt malt, faint whisky notes, cloying overly sweet boozy finish. Not doing much for me. --- Beer merged from original tick of Hot Toddy-ish on 26 Mar 2025 at 12:01 - Score: 6. Can. A hazy golden beer with floaters undera yellowish head. The aroma has notes of spices, eggnog, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, spices, alcohol, malt, and eggnog, leading to a dry finish.

Can. A- Bubblegum, banana, caramel, A- Copper color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Honey, caramel, tangy oak, mild lemon, mild cinnamon, bubblegum, sweet. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly sweet. O- Interesting. I guess it resembles a Hot Toddy. I like how the can says bourbon like flavors. Dare I ask what was used rather than simply barrel aging? I get the honey, lemon, cinnamon, and booze. It works, but it's certainly unique.

Can. Bright clear amber beer, very short lived pale cream colour bubbly head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Sweetish caramel malts and a sweetish and slightly artificial whiskey flavour. Mild nibbly spice. Trace of ripe lemon. Light and semi dry finish. Mildly amusing but pretty simple.
