Bottled at RBESG. Nut brown, creamy head. Evident caramel aroma. Sweet and fruity with medium body and rather soft mouthfeel. The caramelly malt is balanced by salty grassy hops. Quite bitter finish.

For several years now it comes mostly in 0.5 l bottles, lower alcohol content and, most important, pasteurized. It is also widely available now, as the result. Darker reddish colored, simple caramel malt aroma, lightly sweet flavor with touch of grain. Medium body with pleasant lightly sweet finish. Not a bad beer definitely, but needed to be rerated, as it has only little in common with the old one, I’m guessing replaced just about the time of the old review.
Old review, Aug. 2007.
0.33 l bottle. Poured reddish brown body with smaller medium creamy head. Aroma exactly what beer of its type has to have, it’s strong with chocolate, caramel, fruity... Flavor stays beyond a bit, quite watery for what I expected, but still interesting, fruity, caramel, some coffee... Finish is fine, quite short and very pleasant. Here I have to mention I tried three more later, two latest were spoilt...drinkable, but sour, almost like a Flemish sour ale. I think the brewery should pay a bit more attention to hygiene, obviously there are many rotten batches, as I’ve been warned already before...But besides, if correct, it’s really delicious. 3.9

New review (February 2008) Why did I decide to rerate it? Basically, I haven’t had a bottle as good as the first few for two years now (more perhaps) and it simply cannot be called a porter. Don’t know if the recipe was changed, probably, but it isn’t nowhere as good as it used to be. Poured a dark red-black body with a medium sized tan head that went away fast. The nose is weak, a touch of roastiness but mostly caramel malt. Sweetish. The taste simply is simply... ordinary. Caramel malt and nickels. That’s it. Almost no hopiness. The mouthfeel isn’t the nicest one around either... minerally for a lack of a better expression, a touch of salt. A half assed Dunkel that lacks the appeal it once had. Not the best dark in Croatia anymore. Not even the second best dark in Croatia, and probably not even the third. I feel a bit unpatriotic lowering the score of my country’s highest rated beer, but let’s face it. This is nowhere near a 4.4 anymore. Old review (June 2005)One of the most elusive Croatian brews, and without a doubt one of the best 2 Croatian brews. Yes, there are two world class porters brewed in Croatia. 0.5l bottle. Dark near black brown colour, fizzy, medium sized tan head that dissipates at a medium pace. Strong nose, coffee, liquorice, caramel, some dark fruit. Nice and complex. The taste is complex as well, dominated by a strong roastiness mingling with hoppy bitterness, some really pleasant underlying fruitiness. The aftertaste isn’t that pronounced, toffee like, but it sticks long enough. A classic without any doubt. I have two more bottles waiting for me at a friend’s place. Can’t wait. (9/4/8/5/18 (4.4))
