On tap at Blind Tiger. Pours black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has dark grains and roasted malts with earthy chocolate underlying. Flavor has bread and dark grains with light roast with a hint of chocolate.

Beer Table to Go, NYC tap: pours black with a light beige head. Aroma is chocolate with hefty bits of coffee and a generally robust character. Taste is sort of bitter. Body is very smooth. Generally low sweetness. Overall solid beer. A good porter from a saison brewer.

Draft at the Portland Bottling location. The aroma has bitter dark chocolate, ash, and earthy malt. Slightly metallic, good chocolate, more ash. Medium plus body and medium carbonation. Some chewiness in the body.Nice.

Keg at The Answer. Black, large creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate, grain. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, pine, nutty notes. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness, creamy. Very nice.

Draft at Stagshead for lunch. Deep dark brown pour smallish head. Nose is cocoa and some crusty bread. Tastes of dark chocolate, sourdough, cola, roasted malt, sesame sticks. Really smooth and crisp palate. Oh hints at sweetness. Really good and really drinkable porter

Dark ebony liquid is of indeterminable clarity. Beige head atop is small but well-retained.
Vanilla and cocoa in the nose are both on the dry side and make way for a bit of buttercream (not diacetyl) and very easygoing coffee notes. Little to no hops apparent in the nose, but perhaps a bit of fruitiness and very light citrus. Exquisitely clean, as are all of their beers, with no alcohol noted.
Chewy, richly malted body certainly has some sweetness to it. At first I felt it was a touch too sweet and sticky, but a note of sourdough and/or dry butter toffee emerges on the end to add both complexity and balance. Some crunchy roasted dryness is there as well and it finishes with vanilla and chocolate cream notes lingering. Just a very fresh overall feel to the beer, with ample carbonation also aiding in the drinkability. Really nice to see a richly malted porter from these guys. Not that I love porters, but it’s impressive of them to show their range and also a bit of a twist that it’s not a bone dry or near bone dry rendition.
