8 3 7 3 15 Bottle at Oedpus, Carnivale Brettanomyces opening party 2017. Dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, oak, tart red fruits and caramel. Flavour is above moderate sweet and moderate sour. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. [22/06/2017]

Bottle at Oedipus, opening party for Carnivale Brettanomyces ’17. Dark/black color. Dense beige head. Aroma’s of chocolate, cherry/fruit, woody, vanilla. Retronasal it’s wood, sourish, fruity, light funk. Flavor is soft sour, light vanilla. Medium bodied. Tart, somewhat boozy finish.

Dark ebony body shows light mahogany-chocolate edges, light clarity and a small, beige-to-light tan head with moderate to low retention.
The nose is an enjoyable mix of dark chocolate, light caramel, softly succulent peach notes (both peach skin, pit and a more liquorous peach brandy character). There’s both plentiful acidity and a strong malt backbone, with light funk from the Brett adding moderate citrus and other fruity esters. Sounds like it would be jumbled and messy as all hell, but the malt really ties it together and there’s no harsh barrel or booze element to it.
Malty texture in the mouth with some more dry, grainier specialty malts adding roast and light bread. Caramel-vanilla and poignant peach notes all come on quickly adding a wonderful variety of acidity and maltiness with bright fruits and light oak. Funky brett sits in the background with low but tight carbonation and no alcohol or flaw. Pleasantly surprised how well this came out.
