Award winning Pure UBU is a well-balanced, full flavoured amber ale, named after our faithful canine friend, Tess. Often found lazing around the farm, she affectionately earnt the nickname ‘Useless Bloody Urchin’, shortened to UBU and a beer was named in her honour.

This beer is named after the brewery dog, my tasting is from a 500ml brown bottle, best before 24th Mar 2009, drank 25th Feb 2009. Poured into a vase shaped ’Old Speckled Hen’ pint glass. Bright and clear amber colour with a good firm off-white head on top, this soon turned into a wispy covering. Good hop aroma, Challenger and Cascade are the two used in the brew. The hops win in the flavour stakes too, the malt (English Maris Otter) coming into play too. The hops give the beer a very pleasant bitterness, bite and English ale feel. Impressed, my first bottled beer from this brewery, had some cask stuff before.

Cask at many pubs in the Midlands. This is one of my favourite ales and thankfully it's widely available in my part of the world. It's a lovely amber pour, decent head, but surprisingly little lacing. Light aroma, nicely hoppy palate and oh so smooth. It goes down so well. UBU drinkers can easily be spotted by the smile on their face. That's no surprise! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at home, 30th December 2011. Pours nicely reasonable clean white head, lacing on the glass. Aroma is light bit of caramel, yeast, bready, slight grapefruit. Looks good in the glass, clear and clean, carbonation is moderate, about right for the style. Flavour is good and clean, feels thin and lacking depth perhaps, easy drinking though.

Bottle. Orange, barley malt and herbal hops aroma - very nice. Clear amber color with small head. Sweet orange, barley malt and moderately bitter herbal hops flavor. Excellent.

Gravity cask at the Lodge. Clear auburn with a light foam head. Toasty malt/hay nose, light dry fruits. Lightly sweet flavor, mild malts, toast, some orange and tangerine. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Semi-dry finish, sweet bread, some dried fruits and citrus. Pretty decent.

On tap, pours clear amber / copper. Aroma and flavour of dry caramel, traditional English malt and light bitter hops. Not too bad.

500ml bottle. Pours a dark amber with a medium head. Aroma is pineapple, bread and piney hops. Bread and tropical fruit start. Grapefruit bitter finish.

6th November 2008. Clear gold beer. Hoppy with a little spicy dryness in the finish. Inoffensive and okay but nothing you put yourself out for.
