Can. Pretty close to black color, brown head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark cocoa, espresso, licorice. Taste is earthy coffee grounds, unsweetened cocoa, rich body. Delicious.

500mL can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out moderate roast, with a touch of cocoa and oats. Flavour is hearty, with moderate roast, oats and light cocoa. Light sweetness, with a nice heart finish. Excellent.

Obtained on a trip to eastern New Mexico in a fortunate circumstance. The 16 oz can delivers a lights-out black liquid and hardly any head. Stouts do that sometimes in my experience. The nose is subtle, cocoa and something herbal. The first drink is fine, a malty dark chocolate, roasted pecans and a touch of caramel. Not imperial stout big taste. Something much more subdued. A slick and fullish mouth feel and an extended medium-bitter finish. Entertaining without being superb. Malpais Stout continues the La Cumbre tradition of great graphics on the can.

Can, by way of trade with HenrikO. Cheers Henrik! Clear, very dark, chestnut brown. Thin, very sticky, lasting, tan head. Nose has fruity, dark chocolate. Liquorice. Baked stone fruit. Light roast coffee bean. Taste is soft, treacle sweet. Turns roast malt bitter. Good balance. Very smooth, and easy drinking. A fruity tang turns up, and mixes nicely with the chocolatey, treacly sweetness.

Can - pours black with an off-white lace - nose of dark fruit, berries, chocolate, espresso - medium to full body - has a moderate acidity that cuts through the dense maltiness to provide balance - moderate roast and dark malt bitterness - flavors of chocolate, berries, espresso, tobacco - moderately spicy and acidic in the finish - solid.

On tap at brewery. I’ll admit I went for the high rated beers first, but there’s a reason they’re highly regarded. Big roast grains in aroma and taste, bitter bite lingers. Head fades fast, pretty thick coating on the glass. But this ones all about the roast malt. Really delicious.
