A golden amber ipa with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt grassy resinous hops, spruce needles, juniper, pleasant. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, light spruce, nice and rich. On tap at brewery.

Light spruce, caramel malt, and hay aroma. Golden yellow with minimal head. Mildly sweet caramel malt, and moderately bitter spruce and hay flavor. Good body. Light - decent.

On tap at Goodwood, pours a clear golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out loads of spruce tips upfront, with light earthy hops. Flavour is along the same lines, with dried out earthy hops and loads of spruce. I don't really like the combo - very bitter and lacking depth. Fun experiment, but I'm not convinced.

Can pour into shaker pint glass. Appearance is lightly hazy golden yellow with fine white particulates, excellent sparkle, 1.5 finger-width foamy white head with good retention, spotty lacing. Aroma is citrus, resin, with very light woody, pine scent. Taste is resin, bitter, floral, light woodiness but nothing that screams spruce. Palate is light bodied with thin texture, average carbonation with finish like taste. This is not a bad beer by any means but it is disappointing if you are looking for a strong spruce character. It’s just not there--more like a traditional IPA.

Hoo boy. Something has gone terribly awry with this beer, probably the inclusion of spruce tips, which gives it a overwhelming woodsy bitterness that makes you think you’re gnawing on a tree limb. The IPA itself is no great shakes, either, with a heavy wort accent to the malts that brings out too much sweetness in the hops. Bad beer mixed with a bad gimmick.

Can from Kroger. Pours a clear, light amber with a finger of foam that lingers. Pinesol nose with some faint lemon. Bitter on the palate with an herbal note. Dry with some light toasted caramel. Harshly bitter. I don’t know, seems like something isn’t right. --- Beer merged from original tick of Spruce Tip IPA on 26 May 2017 at 19:51 - Score: 6. Pour is a hazy copper with a small white head. Aroma is a slight pine and caramel malt. Flavor is a strong malt, it’s not sweet just a very heavy feel. Some minimal hops and pine which I guess are the spruce tips. Very average at best, not much of a hop presence. This was canned on 3/1/17 so it’s not old but it taste like it is.

Draft. Clear light amber body. White head. Aroma of spruce, toasted grain, grapefruit, pine. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/slick texture, lively carbonation. Taste of spruce, but not overpowering (to its credit). Lots of bitterness and not lots of depth.
