11/10/2025. Cask at wetherspoon beer festival, at Cricketers, Ipswich. Nice colour. Short pour but no bother. This was ample. Aroma is malty, herbal, caramel, bready, twiggy, hedgerow, berries. Moderate sweetness, medium plus bitterness. Moderate body, quite smooth, soft carbonation. Not bad.

Wetherspoon 2025 Autumn Beer Festival. Ale#18 of 26 untried possibilities at the fest. Clear golden-copper ale. Sweet-hoppy character in both aroma and taste with a somewhat overbearing berry-fruit more than evident in both aspects.

Cask at Calverts Court, Stockport. Pours “bitter brown” with a small foamy off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is subdued – just hints of berry fruits and malts. In the mouth it is sweet but with some underlying sharpness and traces of alcoholic strength. Flavour has malts, rye and autumn fruits with some hints of marmalade later on. Some fruitiness in the finish. This is decent enough tastewise, but somewhat rough and ready.

Cask at the Standing Order. Fest tick 6. Pours clear amber with a thin off-white head. Aromas of caramel and something metallic. Taste is light astringent malt, burnt toffee. Burnt orange. Odd.

Cask at The Village Inn Wetherspoon in Rayners Lane. A dark amber/brown coloured pour with a medium creamy white head on top. Vague malty, caramel, dark fruit aroma and taste. Surprisingly thin and watery for its strength.

Bottle from Morrisons. Clear amber body with a beige head that quickly fades. Low carbonation. No lacing. Aroma of dried leaves and toffee. Flavour of caramel and brown bread. Thin to medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. This smells and tastes pretty good but there’s no head retention and it’s very thin.

Bottle from Morrisons, Inverurie. It pours clear rich deep brown with a lasting fluffy off - white head. The aroma is rich, nutty, bitter - sweet, jammy berry, raisin, sultana, toasted fruit cake, touch of marzipan, molasses, malt loaf, vanished wood and toffee. The taste is firmly dry, bitter, robust woody character, nutty, light tannin, leather, some warming spice, ryvita, resin, sappy, raisin, sultana, toasted fruit cake and pleasing touch of alcohol warmth with a dry, woody finale. Fulsome body and moderate,. fluffy carbonation. This is a very well done big robust strong bitter. Would love to try it in cask.
