330 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, best before 2/2019. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red; light copper/brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. ice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lightly tart/sour cherry, berries, raisin, plum, fig, date, green apple, red grape, fruit skin, hay, straw, grass, pepper, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of chocolate, cocoa, leathery/musty funk, oak, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky/light acidic yeast, dark/bready malt, and light-moderate oak barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big lightly tart/sour cherry, berries, raisin, plum, fig, date, green apple, red grape, fruit skin, hay, straw, grass, pepper, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of chocolate, cocoa, leathery/musty funk, oak, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tartness and yeast/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/sour cherry, berries, raisin, plum, fig, date, green apple, red grape, fruit skin, hay, straw, grass, pepper, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, oak, light leather/funk/vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/light acidic yeast, dark/bready malt, and light-moderate oak barrel flavors; with a great malt/tartness balance, and minimal puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tartness, oak spiciness, and carbonation. Fairly clean finishing. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, fairly acidic, and lightly tannic balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a very nice Flanders brown ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/light acidic yeast, dark/bready malt, and light-moderate oak barrel flavors; very smooth, clean, and refreshing to drink with the mellowly lactic/tannic/drying finish. Really well rounded Brett complexity with perfectly balanced dark/bready malt flavors; solid Lacto and oak presence. Was hoping for a little more funk/acidity. This was still a very enjoyable offering, and a spot on example.

Bottle from A.J.'s. Caramel, chocolate, cherry, vanilla, and a bit of vinegar. Deep brown with red and orange tints. Low, thick head. Lightly sweet, slightly thin and watery, bland. Light, bit thin. Rather lame.

12 oz bottle shared at DCLawyer’s sour tasting. Amber brown with beige head. Aromas of caramel, dark fruit. Tastes of dark fruit, caramel, citrus. Light body with a dry finish. Strange for an Oud Bruin.

12oz bottle. A really solid, classical example of the style. Brown malts, mild cherry. Sublime. Medium bodied. Remarkably true to style, the Ommegang/Moorgat merger has produced a lot of sold beers, this being another. Could absolutely hang with Belgian examples.

12oz bottle poured into St. Louis flute Lambic glass. Clear dark brown with amber hues. Thick, long lasting head. Looks commercial version/billboard ad like. Filtered clear bottle after the last pour. For me, this beer seems to hit on the dot this style and very much akin to a Belgian version. Also, a few improvements. For style, it’s a bit cleaner. Aroma is a lightly clear cherry, light earthy musk, cherry pits soda, and a lightly soft pie dough. Flavor has a touch of tart/sour sting with a tingling but centered carbonation mimicking cherry soda a bit. Again, clean flavors with an aftertaste of fluffy dark croissant. Evaporates off the palate and leaves me wanting more.

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is a dark fruit followed by a vinegar sourness. Flavor is tart with some red wine and apple cider vinegar. Maybe a bit thin compared to beers of this style from Belgium. This is not as tart or sour as some Belgian versions and that is actually ok with me.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese. Pours sort of brown with a light tan head. Mildly sour aroma, perhaps with cherry. Med minus body. Flavor is very slightly tart. Cherry seems present. Certainly a rather mild version of the style. Pleasant enough.

Strong toffee nose, tart cherries. Clear garnet brown, thick head, little retention. Tart cherry and raspberry, toffee overtones, neither sweet or tangy. Medium body, easy carbonation.
