Sour Ale brewed with Blueberries and Aged in Red Wine Barrels
Few things are more synonymous with Maine than blueberries. After years of making wild beers without ever using Maine’s state fruit, a tiny farm in Windham, Maine, asked us to try a beer with their blueberries. The beer tasted so good that we asked to use their entire crop.
To make Little Sal, we add wild, lowbush blueberries to sour red barrel-aged ale. The resulting beer is dark violet in color, with earthy aromas of blueberry and oak. Its flavor is juicy, tart, and unmistakably blueberry: a true taste of Maine.

375ml bottle pours a dark, garnet amber with a ring of white head. Nose is blueberry and merlot grapes, a little nail polish, some currant too. Flavor is nice and not at all the tartness I expected, jammy blueberry, red wine jam, some candy, currant, cherry too. Finishes medium bodied, the oak comes now with vanillin and some tannins. Nice. Super easy to drink.

This is a lambic, little question. Blueberries on hype. Grapefruit crackery bretta. Deep dark red pour with good head. Tangy end. Rich as fuck. Nice stuff.

Blueberry wilds often end up lacking in flavor, but this is great, fruity, tart, thick.

Bottle. Pours a near clear purple with a white that dissipates quickly and nearly completely. Aroma has sour blueberry with a light oakiness with a bit of light grains underlying. Flavor has sour blueberry and a light sweet grain with earthy oak backing.

12.7 oz corked and caged. Aroma is brett, blueberries, oak. Pours a hazy plum hue with a one+ finger purple-white head with good retention. Taste is moderately sour (7/10) with notes of berries, brett, oak, lacto, red wine vinegar. Highly carbonated foamy mouthfeel. Good.
