Attaining peak darkness, this syrupy imperial stout has hints of coffee and a pleasing hop aroma. Dies Irae or "Day of Wrath" in English, brings to mind the Final Judgement at the end of time and the corresponding Four Last Things: Death, Judgement, Heaven, and Hell. May we use this healthy reminder of our end as motivation to rightly order our lives towards God, and as a reminder to pray for the repose of the souls of those who have gone before us. As you drink this fine beer, say a prayer for the Souls in Purgatory, that they may be released from their sufferings.

Can. Pours black, medium beige head, good lacing. Aroma is roasty, cocoa, tobacco, molasses. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter. Medium plus body. Decent.

12 ounce can from Festival Northland, 6/23/25. Oh great, an outwardly Catholic brewery. Will this beer jettison me straight to hell? Oh well. All the cool people are there anyway. Very dark brown, large tan head, good retention. Aroma of roast and chocolate. Taste is roast, chocolate, nuts. Thin for style. Decent balance. Some skill here but still seems like a gimmick. New brewery! Brewery #2579, USA #1975, Illinois #92.
