Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can, best by July 7, 2018 poured into a snifter. Black with small beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, medium body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is roasted malt, soy sauce, some chocolate, a little ash, and hints of booze.

Can. Deep, dark garnet-tinged brown that isn't quite opaque. Tall, mocha colored head. Light cocoa and roast malt aroma. The flavor is sweet with some chocolate and licorice notes and some roast malt. OK, but not a big league Impy here.

12 oz. can. Thick full tan head sits on top a pitch black oil. Aroma is mild oak, roast, chocolate, ash. The flavor has a strong pine bitterness that is borderline black IPA. The oak, and chocolate are here, but the pine bitterness is bold. Burnt toffee. Mouthfeel is nearly full and chewy. ABV is mostly hidden. Good.

12oz can. Aroma is dry, ashy, burnt malts with toffee sweetness. Not big or sweet. Fumy. Flavor is moderately acidic, bitter brown malts. Coffee/tea mix. Needs more oat. 737315

12oz can. One of the better beers I’ve had from Tallgrass. Really nails the style, well done. Big aroma at first, a little bit of odd cocoa bitterness. Big, sweet, full bodied. Deep roast, resinous hops buried underneath the big malt tones. Coffee, chocolate, brown sugar. Not perfect, but enjoyable.

Can. A- Sharpie, roasty, booze. A- Black color, black liquid, light brown head. T- Black licorice, roasty, bitter cocoa, sharpie, booze. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, strong finish. O- Tallgrass just seems to be taking their Buffalo Sweat beer and ruining it in every direction. If you want a sort of pure RIS, this is close, just not very balanced in my opinion. Very roasty and bitter and really doesn’t taste like the base beer at all if you ask me.

12 ounce can into snifter, best before 1/5/2018. Pours opaque d ark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, caramel, toasted biscuit, dark bread, and nuttiness; with light molasses, licorice, raisin, toffee, smoke, charcoal, herbal, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, caramel, toasted biscuit, dark bread, and nuttiness; with light molasses, licorice, raisin, toffee, smoke, charcoal, herbal, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/piney hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, caramel, toasted biscuit, dark bread, nuttiness, smoke, charcoal, herbal, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance; slight hop/char astringency builds through the glass, but not overwhelming. Light dryness from hop/char bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, moderately sticky/chalky, and lightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden; a small warmth lingering after the finish, with minimal booziness. Overall this is an awesome Russian imperial stout! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Very rich and complex on malts; quite hoppy, but still really well balanced. Spot on for the style. A really enjoyable offering.
