A pillowy cream coloured head that dissipates quickly on a murky caramel coloured body. The nose is massive and rich - brown sugar, bourbon, ripe dark berries, rich sweet malt and toffee all make an appearance. A tough act to follow but the taste pulls it off. The taste profile leads with bourbon, sweet biscuit malt, toffee and caramel, prunes, raisins, dark berries and both earthy and citrus hops. A hint of toast, licorice and spice add to a sweet but very balanced BW profile. Full bodies, dense and rich with appropriately soft effervescence. I’m not sure the style gets any better than this on the sweet end of the spectrum.

Bottled (BQE Q3 2014)@Rådhuskällaren, Umeå. Deep amber/copper colour with a mediumsized beige small head. Aroma is nice caramel, some nice wooden tones, also a nice aged port/madeira kind of thing going on with some mild alcohol. Flavour is very beautifully balanced with same same elements as in the aroma. Aged really beautifully.

(Bottle) Hazy dark amber colour with small, frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, toffee, dried apricots, orange peel, nuts, treacle, vanilla and oak wood. Malty, fruity, sweet taste with notes of caramel, toffee, apricots, dried fruit, orange peel, oak wood, vanilla, coconut, treacle, nuts, red berries and a warming, peppery, vinous finish with a mild bitterness. Full body, quite sweet. Not as aggressively hoppy as many American barley wines. Well rounded and surprisingly well balanced for its strength. Very nice.

Bottle, 75cl corked, at Haandverksølfestivalen 2017. An unclear dark orange to amber colored beer with a nice off-white head. Hoppy, fruity aroma with caramel and some prunes. There’s a light sour touch in the flavor, with the same hoppy and fruity elements found in the aroma. Caramel malts and dark dried fruits too, mostly prune. It’s full-bodied and nicely carbonated, with a sourish touch and a long finish. A delicious one indeed. 170610
