Made with generous portions of rye, blackstrap molasses, and caraway seed, Silent Neighbor Stout is more than meets the eye. Named as an homage to our neighbors in the historic Mount Olivet Cemetery, this stout has a hearty richness shrouded in mystery. It opens with notes of rye, chocolate, and roasted barley blended with rich molasses and subtle fruity bitterness. This whole grain belly warmer is the perfect haunt for any season.

Growler from the brewery pours an opaque black with some creamy, off white head. Nose is what you expect, toast, molasses, malt, grain, chocolate, some cola. Flavor follows, cola, mild pepper, toast, molasses, grains. Dry finish. Well done.

16oz pour at Right Proper pours a murky, translucent brown with zero head. Nose has lots of molasses and brown sugar, plenty of promised pumpernickel too, chocolate, toast, hints of pepper and bread crust. Flavor has lots of chocolate and molasses, some caramel and brown sugar, some spice and herbal notes. Sweet finish.

Draft pint (or 10oz) pour at Pizzeria Paradiso Georgetown. Poured a very dark, perhaps black brown color with a small tan head. Aroma was light herbal notes, spices, dark chocolate notes. Some strange herbal notes. Getting a very "holiday" beer character from this one, but not overpowering in the ABV.

Light roast and some caramel. Light nut. Black pour with great head and lacing. Bittersweet finish. Tap at Pizza Paradiso.

Very nicely done. Pours black with good mocha head and lacing. Lots of roast on initial aroma and a nice light to medium bitter follow through. You can taste the molasses here - it adds a nice sweet note. Tap at Glens.

Draft. Nearly opaque maroon brown color, tan edge head. Chocolate aroma. Taste has bitter cocoa and lightly burnt espresso. Very tasty. Earlier Rating: 1/31/2015 Total Score: 3.8Draft at Crios. Muddy dark amber color, thick beige head, a truly ugly pour. Aroma of toasted rye bread. Taste has tons of beautiful rye spice on dark toast with burnt caramel, more bitter at the finish than most stouts. I’d call this more of a brown ale than a stout, but it’s very tasty. I need to try a cleaner pour and explore this one some more.
