A Bellwoods take on spiced rum, this imperial stout was aged for a year in rum barrels with a melange of ginger, all spice, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, star anise, nutmeg, and juniper berries. What has emerged is a refined, smooth, warming, and lethally delicious spiced stout that’ll induce sharp pangs of nostalgia long after your final bottle is empty. And though it’s our highest alcohol beer to date, you’ll find the beauty is in the balance.

Bottle split at Cotts Convention 2, thanks to Fin, 05/03/16. Pitch black topped with a dirty tan covering. Nose is rich roast, bitter chocolate, darl fruit rinds, light spice. Taste comprises more rich roast malts, black pepper, dark chocolate, light charr, subtle barrel effect. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with light rising alcohol. Decent enough BA impy and drinks well below the assigned ABV - however with my previous encounters with Bellwoods I perhaps expected a little more from this one.

750ml bottle shared @FrankenBierFest (Rome). Pours deep brown/black with a thin cappuccino head. Aroma of roasted malts, lots of coffee and bitter chocolate, rhum, vanilla, spicea, alcohol. Flavour is rich and complex, medium sweet with a good bitter end. Full body, medium carbonation. A brutal masterpiece.

Bottle big thanks to Fin at Cotteridge Convention 2016. It pours deep brown - black with a small tan head. The aroma is rich, bitter - sweet, oily, chocolate cake, treacle, vanilla and coconut pudding. The taste is crisp, bitter-sweet, chewy, sweet roasted malts, dried fruits, lots of alcohol boost, some spice and mild acidity with a hot finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Plenty of flavour, but it is a bit sweet and rather hot. Decent enough overall, but I couldn’t drink too much of this.

Bottle shared at the Cotteridge Convention - 2016 edition. Big cheers to Fin for this one! Pours thick black with a creamy brown head. The nose holds torched wood, chocolate, earth, leathery dark fruits. Heavy sweet flavour with sugary dark malts, toast, light cinnamon, ginger snaps, cocoa. Full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, with further cinnamon notes, chocolate, toasted sugars. Very good stuff.
