One-year-old bottle. Nose is of biscuity malt with a roasty edge, smokiness, and a touch of floral hops. A very frothy off-white head. The taste is relatively subtle, featuring the same biscuity malt, caramel, vegetables and English-style and floral hops. A skillfully understated smoke element is well integrated. A very soft mouth feel is accentuated by a healthy carbonation. Alcohol is well concealed. Good balance with a slight bitter edge emerging in the aftertaste.

Clear copper pour, with a big beige head. Smoky aroma, subtle sweet malts, light cherry notes with hint of scotch, and caramel. Soft mouth feel, and soft carb. Finish is medium to high bitter, with great smoky scotch flavours, and some woody, grassy hops. A very interesting barley wine, very little sweetness, lots of smoke and very bitter. A great sipper.

A dark reddish copper amber barleywine with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light vinous notes, treacle, alcool warmth, resinous hops, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with light vinous notes, alcohol warmth, resinous hops, very nice and complex. On tap at L'autre oeil.

Poured from the tap (ABV listed at 8.5%). Cloudy orangey brown with off white head. Caramel and biscuit malt with a fruity orange perfume quality that is slightly off putting. Not terrible, but not pleasant. Couldn't drink more than the 6 oz taster.

Bottle at Black Christmas 2017
Hazy amber color. Mild malt aroma, caramel, and smoke. Boldly sweet, full bodied, with good malt depth; some toffee, hints of smoke; bold bitterness, balanced overall.
Excellent.

Bomber, merci Pierre T. Orange, col blanc-cassé.
