Speculator is distinguished by a balanced but complex spice character in which the alcohol percentage does not dominate the taste. SNAB composes this unique beer by adding a balanced "herbal bag" during brewing. For lovers of spicy beers, this "liquid speculoos" is an absolute must and a true taste sensation.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of Countbeer. Pours a cloudy amber with a small off-white head. Sweet caramellish nose. Medium body, sweet caramel, a little phenollic, salt and minerals. Not really all that sophisticated. 150313

75 cl. bottle shared with my brother Niek @ my parents, bought @ Mitra, Culemborg. Red brown with an off-white head. Sweet, malty spicy cinnamon aroma. Well concealed alcohol. I expected a rather different beer than this, given the description on the bottle. It’s not bad, quite tasty actually, but not the taste explosion I anticipated.

Bottle at the Essen Christmas Beer Festival. Poured a clear copper colour with a round tan head. The aroma is of fruit leading to a medium bitter flavour with some spice and a little lingering alcohol burn. Liquid speculaas? I'm not so sure!

Sampled at OBER Kerstbierfestival Essen 2011. Red colored beer, small off-white to beige head. Smell way too much herbs: clove, cinnamon, vanilla, and it tastes about the same: Yuk! Low to medium carbo and body.

Bottle from Bier Koning. Hazy dark amber beer, tiny short lived pale tan head. Softish palate. Mmmm! Whats going on here? This ’barleywine’ tastes of honey and smooth spice. Trace of marmite. All joins up quite well. The spice eventually resolves in to cinnamon and cloves. Sweetish beer that reminds me of a mead than a barleywine!
