The basis of an Old Ale, but fermented using the "Wild Angels" strain, Cru has a distinctive barnyard aroma, supported by hoppy citrus tones (tangerine, grapefruit & lemon). The creamy texture and toffee, balance accents of earth, spice and maltiness. Cru finishes wild, lightly bitter and dry.

Bottle from the brewery: pours cloudy light brown with an off white head. Aroma is light caramel or toffee, bretty funk, wood, fruitiness. Taste is kind of sour. Nice bit of sweetness and funk and everything. Great body. Hefty complexity. Quite good.

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly clear deep reddish copper color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big sour lemon, cherry, raspberry, blackberry, orange, raisin, currant, red wine, pepper, hay, straw, musty funk, caramel, toasted oak, bread, light vinegar/leather, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak, and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour lemon, cherry, raspberry, blackberry, orange, raisin, currant, red wine, pepper, hay, straw, musty funk, caramel, toasted oak, bread, light vinegar/leather, and yeast/oak earthiness. Moderate tart/sourness and light yeast/tannic oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, cherry, raspberry, blackberry, orange, raisin, currant, red wine, pepper, hay, straw, musty funk, toasted oak, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak, and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/sourness balance, with zero astringent sour flavors after the finish. High carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, dry, moderately acidic, and lightly tannic/grainy/creamy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 7.4%. Overall this is an excellent sour amber ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak, and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and fairly refreshing to drink; due to the modest acidity and high carbonation. A very enjoyable offering.

Pour is a muddy river water looking brown with a loud fizzy tan head. Aroma is a earthy brown ale malt with some vinegar. Flavor is tart like a Flanders red ale but then comes more of a malt you would find in a nut brown ale. Finish leaves some red wine vinegar on the tongue and lips. They basically made a brown ale and fermented it with wild yeast. It works though, with a super tart/sourness followed by a earthy malt.

Bottle from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours copper with a creamy beige head. Aroma of wood, earth, berry. Near med body. Flavor is very earthy/barnyard with a distinct sour note. Still there’s wood and berry which seems to be red. A bit musty. It’s making me think of BFM, but BFM light. Very interesting and tasty stuff.

Looks like a brown grape juice. Smells like a rodenbach to the tee. cherry pie, vinegar, balsamic. Taste. jeez, this is probably the first beer that I ever said “this is a rodenbach” to. it is identical. this is maybe a bit sweeter but holy crap how? Very nice. there might be a bit too much vinegar. Very nice.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a cloudy brown with medium beige head that lasts. The aroma is leather, vinegar, dark fruit, oak. Thin body, similar flavors to nose, tart finish, very good.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark orange-brown color with an enormous fluffy orange-beige head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was tart, fruity and citric with notes of red wine and wild funk. The flavor was tart, chalky, Pez, citrus, perfume and wild funk. Long finish. Medium body. Ok.

Bottle - Soured malts, light cherry and wood with a touch of balsamic. Cloudy dark copper brown. Soured malts and dark muddy notes. A bit over carbonated but still pretty decent.
