Intens zwart Belgisch bier van hoge gisting. Straffe koffie en chocolade in de smaak, geflankeerd door een stevige bitterheid. Hergist in de fles. Ingrediënten: gerstemout, tarwemout, geroosterde gerst, suiker, hop, gist, kruiden.

Huge darker beige head, pretty stable leaving shards of lace over fully opaque black-brown beer. Coffee, green leaves, cilandro, roasted/burnt malts, liquorice. Bitter, very roasted but with a sweet-malty background, liquori-sh-ce and again a bit of coffee. Bit creamy MF, as if some oats were added. After some time, the cilandro reappears retronasal. The roasted barley is very prominent. Chewy, but not really heavy body. Good carbonation. Decent.

At Kerstbierfestival 2015. Pours black, small grey head. Small grey head. Smell is bit dusty, dark malts. Taste is a bit sharp, roasted malts. Bit bitter. Mild sweetness. Misses the imperial stout - mouthfeel, and the complexity. Still OK though.

Bottle sampled at Essen Winterbier festival 2015. Appears black with a fawn head. Aroma of licorice, toffee, overripe dark fruits and malt. Flavour is over moderate sweet and light moderate bitter. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Thank you! Sampled 750 ml. bottle @ Kerstbierfestival Essen 2015. According to my booklet, this one has a different mashing schedule from the regular which should soften the taste. Bottle clearly states “Special Edition”. Black, mocha head. Nose is herbal, big licorice, anise, roasted coffee. Taste is still quite Belgian much like the other version but no soap in this one, more mellow, still heavy licorice, herbal, touch empty but more coherent with like blackberries note in the back. Okay body. Quite Belgian especially for the style but definitely nicer than I remember the regular being for me.
