The sun is out, the pool is open, and our Watermelon Gose is in cans and on the way to a store near you just in time for summer.
Inspired by salted watermelon, a summer treat, Terrapin Beer Co. set out to brew a Gose perfect for summer sipping. The beer has a watermelon aroma, a distinct lactic tartness and subtle watermelon flavor. Pour this beer into a stange glass, or drink it straight out of the can. Pairs well with light summer dishes like Thai shrimp and watermelon salad.

On tap at the airport location.
Pours clear golden with a medium sized off-white head, light lacing. Watermelon, wheat, tart, salty.
Very good. I bet this would be good on a hot day.

This review was imported from my RateBeer ratings.
06/05/2024 - I have had a chance to drink a few more of these beers since my initial review and have decided to slightly increase my TASTE and AROMA scores from 5 to 6. I have not changed any of my tasting notes, just the number scores. The main reason for the change is that I found that if I drank the beer while it was still very cold (i.e. straight from the fridge), then I got more of the watermelon flavor and scent that I griped about, was lacking. Don't get me wrong, I still wish there was more watermelon, but when the beer is ice-cold then I find the watermelon to be at a passable level.
Below is my initial review from 05/31/2024.
12 oz. can, 4.5% ABV, Best By Date: NOV1824
AROMA: Slightly sweet with mild scents of watermelon rind and coriander, and just the slightest hint of salt at the very end. As the beer warms I get less and less of the watermelon scent until all I'm left with is the coriander.
APPEARANCE: Pours a transparent light gold with a medium height head that is fairly frothy and dissipates at a moderate pace with very minimal lacing. The head was nice, but I wish it lasted a little longer. As for the beer itself, in a clear glass, it looks a little weak due to its pale color.
TASTE: Moderately sour with mild flavors of watermelon rind. On the finish, I get a little more sourness and some lemon flavor. With the exception of "sour", all the other flavors are fairly muted. Personally, I would like more watermelon.
MOUTHFEEL: It's borderline between being thin-bodied and medium-bodied, with it leaning more towards thin-bodied. The texture is crisp and a little "grabby" on the tongue, which is most likely due to the sourness level. Carbonation seems average.
OVERALL: Well, I can honestly say I am not a fan of this beer. Which is a shame, because I like most of the other Terrapin beers that I've tried. For me, the biggest issues are the lack of watermelon in the aroma and taste. In my book, if it says "Watermelon" in the name of the beer, then I expect it to be the lead character and not a cameo appearance.

Pours clear deep gold with a lingering white head. Mild, melon aroma. The flavor is pretty sweet. Watermelon. Malt. Light bodied. Minimal tartness. Meh.

I mean, I'm not sure what to say about this, its a sweet and sour watermelon beer. Its beer. with watermelon. A watermelon beer. I kinda hoped it would be a good florida beer, you know, the ones you drink when its hot af and you just want to something to wash down all the sweat and goo in your mouth. This ain't it. The sweet syrupy front end isn't working for that. But one thing I'll say for it, it tastes like watermelon candy and once you've had 4 of them and you've smoked a bunch of indica, you kinda don't care. That's not a raving endorsement. OK, so let's call it: mild tart, a bit sugary up front with watermelon candy flavors leading to a beery finish. More or less what you'd expect, esp if you're like me and think most beer these days is bullshit made by idiots. So I guess that's my rating. The recipe is bullshit formulated by an idiot, probably enjoyed by nobody really, except somebody somewhere maybe pretends they like it.
