Our 11th stop on this Jersey beer journey takes us to Bergen County. We are excited to present the first lager brewed at our new facility, a Baltic Porter. This exceptionally complex beer starts with notes of rich chocolate and toffee on the nose with an initial sweetness on the tongue. The finish follows up with satisfying roast and licorice flavors. Hops are secondary in this beer, providing a bit of bitterness and spiciness. Pair with roasted meats, chocolatey desserts or earthy cheeses like Fontina.

Bottle purchased for $8.99 at Liquor Outlet wine Cellar Boonton, NJ. No date coding any place on the bottle. Shared on 18 June, 2016. It’s a dark brown color with head that quickly fades. The aroma consists of moderate chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, and weak toasted grain.

The flavor starts with moderate chocolate, caramel, and a hint of molasses. The finish has light touch of char. Its medium bodied (but leans on the lighter side) with mild carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. I know lager yeast is used so I am not going to mark down for body. Overall, the entire flavor just seems muted.

Bottle shared by Airforcehops, thanks for the opportunity! Deep brown with a stingy off white head. Rich chocolate notes with bits of light pitted fruits and a touch of alcohol. Bready pilsner with a rich clean lager character.

750 ml bottle from Tavour. Nose is chocolate, licorice, a little roast, and hints of vanilla. Black with a big heavy lacing cinnamon tan head. Flavor is lightly sweet, lightly bitter, lightly spicy, and a light vanilla note. Pretty good stuff.

750 ml bottle. Pours a mahogany reddish brown color topped by a large frothy tan head. Roasted malt and coffee aroma. Sweet roasted malt and chocolate flavor upfront. Notes of coffee liqueur, mochaccino and burnt sugar. Rich and complex with a noticeable alcohol prescence. Excellent interpretation of the Baltic Porter style. Worth seeking out. Great job Flying Fish!
