North Coast Tart Cherry Berliner Weisse is made with the juice of Michigan Montmorency cherries, whose addition softens the lactic finish of the beer and gives it a springtime blush.

Bottle. Sour milk, cherry, toasted bread malt, and straw aroma. Hazy pink-amber color with small head. Mildly sweet-tart cherry, wheat malt, moderately sour lactic acid, and mildly bitter straw flavor. Good body. Tasty.

Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a dark red color with a small foamy white head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was tart and sour cherries and cinnamon. The flavor was tart and sourish with a cherry pie presence. Long cherry pie finish. Medium body. Interesting.

Pinkish copper pour with minimal white fizzy head. Tart cherry, Light hay, light yeast, sweet fruit. Gets close to candy-like but the sharpness backs it off. Bright. Medium thin body. Rocking.

Crisp pink coloured body with a small, single centimetre tall pink head that fades very fast and leaves nothing on top. Aroma of crisp cherries, light wheat, some subdued yeast and bread notes and a little sweetness from honey and lactose. Light-bodied; Strong cherry flavour at first with a nice sour, lactic quality right behind and a mild wheatie and dry malt finish with a good deal of sweetness on the end. Aftertaste shows more tart cherries than anything else with a bit of cranberry juice kicked in along with some more sweet honey notes and a touch of the sour finish with some light yeast and touches of pectin near the end. Overall, a nice and tart beer with a noticeable cherry flavour, some lighter dry notes from malt, a hint of the yeast and lactose and ending with a pleasant cherry and honey sweetness with a hint of sourness - nice and light, but full of flavour and a hint of complexity. I sampled this as the first of my three beers - red/white/blue for the Fourth of July, as of course, my red beer. Nice and beautiful in the clear glass as well should get a bonus point for appearance! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 31-May-2017 for US$6,22 sampled at home in Washington on the Fourth of July, 2017.

Bottle: Pours out a light amber color with a reddish hue, large frothy white head. Aroma is a bit of florals and honey sweet. Sweet and tart cherries come through in the taste, along with more of the honey. Very smooth overall, feels a bit more like a mead than a Berliner. Super drinkable.

Tap at J’s. Pours a clear raspberry red with a small pink head that dissipates quickly. Faint sakura blossom nose with some grain. Lightly tart on the palate with some yogurt notes. Cherry flesh, a touch sweet & tart. Light a/ a faint cherry skin end. Really nice and cool to see NC doing something a bit different for them.

Sample at Bob’s Bar. Clear reddish-amber color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly to a sparse outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of tart cherry, yeast and malt. Light-bodied with a tart cherry character and notes of yeast and biscuit malt. The finish is mildly sour with a cherry aftertaste.
