Our Audition series is a place for us to try out new recipes and experiment with new beers. This beer is a true West Coast-style Double IPA made with huge amounts of hops - both in the kettle for flavor and later in the torpedo to impart a massive hop aroma. The light malt body and dry finish hide the power in this immensely drinkable hop-bomb.

Classic-style DIPA, viscous and bitter, with strong grapefruit, orange, and pine notes followed by a clingy, oily bitterness. Tasty.

On Tap lightly hazy light golden almost with a hint of green. Thin smooth white head. Very light malt flavors...almost lightly sweet. The hops are bitter and fumey but not much freshness. Piney and slick. Big and smooth like a 9% beer would be, and decent . Just not remarkable.

Sample at the Mills River brewery. Clear dark golden color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of citrus, hops and malt. Medium to full body with flavors of grapefruit, piney hops and grainy malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a fruity hop aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bitter orange 2 finger tight creamy head. Columbus, Simcoe boom out of the glass with a bitter orange and pine needle. Intense bitterness but I’m not too surprised. lacks balance but certainly more balance than Hop Hunter. The malt has an old grainy taste to it. No spice at all just sweet & bitter.

Keg at the Torpedo Room, Berkeley, 29/01/16. Clear golden orange with a decent off white covering. Nose is pine, dank hop notes, grapefruit, orange pith, toasted malt. Taste comprises red grapefruit, floral notes, citric zest, pine needle. Medium + body ... bit of chew, fine carbonation, semi aggressive hop bitterness in the close. Decent enough DIPA but no stand out.

Draft at the torpedo room. Clear golden orange coloured pour with a lasting sticky off white head. Aroma is fresh zesty citrus, orange, little alcohol, cereal grains. Flavour is composed of semi sweet base grains. Orange rind, smooth citrus. Little grassy.. Assertive smooth hop bitterness. Palate is semi sweet moderate carbonation. Good stuff.
