Our Audition series is a place for us to try out new recipes and experiment with new beers. This beer is a true West Coast-style Double IPA made with huge amounts of hops - both in the kettle for flavor and later in the torpedo to impart a massive hop aroma. The light malt body and dry finish hide the power in this immensely drinkable hop-bomb.

Keg at the Torpedo Room. Pours clear gold with a creamy white head. Lovely aroma, lots of dank and juicy hops, citrus, tropical fruits. Medium sweet flavor with some bready pale malts, tangerine, melon, papaya, light pine. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Resinous finish with light alcohol warmth, more melon, pine, papaya, orange. Solid DIPA.

Draught at Sierra Nevada Torpedo Room. Clear orange liquid with medium white head. Aroma of citrus, light pine, grain, light mango, light caramel and grapefruit. Taste is light sweet and medium to high bitter with notes of citrus, tangerine, caramel and grain. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice, albeit bit old school.

Bottle from the Torpedo room. Pours crystal clear pale orange, large pillowy white head, dissipates slowly leaving great lacing. Aroma is not strong and has a lot of grassy notes, some floral, a bit of pine, grains. Flavor is quite sweet, lots of honey notes, floral and grassy. Light plus bitter, not harsh. Medium body, a bit oily in the mouth. This is certainly not your everyday DIPA - much much more floral than is typical, and with a healthy dose of malty sweetness. Just not doing it for me.

Bomber from Liz (who got it at SN). Pours clear darkish gold with a slight bubbly/creamy white head. Aroma overwhelms the nose with lots of floral and mildly citrus hop. Caramel barely discernible. Full bodied. Hop burn in the mouth. Still think it’s floral and citrus, but the hop is so strong there could well be resin hiding within. It’s indeed NW strong, but it is fairly smooth and non-harsh. So it trumps most NW DIPAs. Damn but it is hoppy. Without burning anything. Super "drinkable hop-bomb". Brilliant ale.
