Time flies as they say, and we have reached the twentieth edition of our boundary pushing Abstrakt series of beers. It is going to be one for the ages too, as we are going to the metaphorical town on AB20. We have brewed a coffee milk English barley wine, and have blended this with an equally stunning barrel-aged imperial stout. So think liquid tiramisu, backed by a rich and decadent layer of warming alcohol. And much more besides.

Abstrakt 20 14% This is Brewdog's Tiramisu inspired beer that pours a Amber red that's crystal clear. Big coffee aroma with a sweet edge. Full bodied with a spritzy carbonation and dry finish. The taste is sweet caramel syrup and delicious coffee. Syrupy sweet but quite enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at home. Pours a Clear reddish brown with a small beige head that fades fast. Complex aroma of coffee beans, cocoa, lots of oak, ligour, rubber and tobacco. The flavour is sweet with the addition of more brown sugar, dried fruit, liqueur and warming alcohol in the end. interesting coffee tones in the background. Has silky and soft mouth feel, full-bodied and light to medium bitterness. Rich and complex ale. A little unbalanced and boozy, and should have been cellared longer.

Appearance- mahogany, opaque, light brown tinges at the base, a small beige head. Aroma- coffee dominates, pecan pie, earthy dark malts, chocolate, whisky hints, rich fruitcake, honey, treacle fudge, yum. Taste- sticky sweet malt, pecan nuts, almonds, sugary vanilla fudge, coffee, dark rum, tiramisu, dates, toffee, syrupy sticky dark fruits, lasting thick finish. Booze well hidden. This is very tasty.

375ml black cork and wire bottle, no.05656. Bought at Vinmonopolet Tromsø Sentrum. Noisy, fawn-coloured head dissipating over a close to clear brown-dark red body. Faint lacing. Inviting aromas of dried fruits, chocolate, rum, and alcohol. Mixed taste of molasses, bread, raisin and liquorice. Lingering vanilla sweetness to the finish, smoothly warming down the throat. Well bodied. Nice sipper that gets rather sweet in the long run. (Celebrating my entry into no. 3 at the Master Division, old age, Tromsø 03.11.2016).

Bottle at home. Pours a dark hazelnut colour, little head which almost immediately dissipates. Aroma is almost entirely coffee (reminds me of Costa Rican filter coffee), earthy and a bit boozy. Also sweet. Flavour is full bodied, extremely coffee like and very sweet. Not quite a tiramisù but if you like coffee you’ll love it!

Bottle at home split with Sarah. A hazed redy cherry brown coloured pour with a lasting whispy light tan head. Aroma is big sweet malts, toffee, sticky brown sugars, cherry, figgy pudding, raw oak woody booze barrel, bourbon. Flavour is really sweet, sticky toffee, cake, hitns of mellow roast, warming alcohol, woody tanin, Paalte is big and chewy, sticky sweet, flabby, lowish carbonation. Little raw coffee lingering in the finish. Medium is sticky sweet, complex. Too sweet for me. Bottle at home - aged. A thick dark brown coloured pour with a fading loose tan head. Aroma is sticky brown sugars, coffee soaked biscottti, raisin, coffee soaked, brown sugars,

375ml bottle @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours very dark brown, thin tan head. Aroma presents brown bread, nutty malt, molasses. Taste is silky, deep molasses, dried dark fruits, syrupy sweet, liqueur-filled chocolates.. some creamy vanilla notes would’ve been welcome, maybe caramel, but seems lacking here. It’s nice, and quite rich and boozy with some tiramisu flavours coming through, but it just lacks depth.

A dark, reddish brown beer, basicly no head. Aroma has richness of dried fruits, raisins and prunes, some wood and barre, sweetness and rum. Some alcohol that isn’t bothering but gives a hint what is coming. Taste is rich, dried fruits, strong sweetness, raisins, port wine, dryer barrel, some alcohol. Full bodied, low carbonation, only slightly stickyness. Sweet, dried fruity, enough of interesting notes. This is tasteful.
