Lervig's take at the sour IPA concept and something of a Lervig classic; can from Etre Gourmet. Snow white, thin and open head, some thin patches in the middle over a cloudy ochre-tinged straw blonde beer. Aroma of hard green apples, sweaty shallots and even stale armpit sweat, green gooseberries, stewed rhubarb, grape skin, lemon zest, kefir, sourdough, egg yolk, lime. Sour onset indeed, raw rhubarb, Granny Smith apple and green gooseberry, sorrel leaf and unripe grape notes, lively carbonated; this fruity lactic sourness further dries a white-bready maltiness, with sourdoughy effect, under ongoing green apple and gooseberry flavours. Ends aromatic with additional starfruit, lime juice and lemon zest aspects from the hops, which however fail to bring the bitterness one tends to expect from sour IPA - but then I guess this can be interpreted as 'hazy sour IPA', even if combining too many style designations eventually becomes necessarily meaningless. Well-soured in an elegant, fruity and colourful way, very enjoyable, but the IPA aspect can and should be amplified a bit for me.

Tap at Valhalla Beer Club, Prague. Hazy orange body, lasting thick white head. Perfumey peachy fruity hoppy notes mixing well with light lacto. Peach, lemony, generally fruity hoppy notes mixing well with some lacto notes on a smooth body, before it goes in a lightly sour finish. Very, very well balanced! Sour IPAs are almost always a shitty style. There, I've said it. Balancing out the aggressive lacto with hoppiness that still makes sense and doesn't clash with it is definitely not easy and most fail, creating vaguely hoppy sours. This, while not an outright wow, luckily wasn't one of those beers.

Can from Citysuper had out of can. Probably 6+ months old so take with grain of salt. Super tart grainy up front then even more tart and funky sour taste. Unpleasant. Couldn’t have more than a few sips.
