Unique and limited edition, this Belgian style ale is crafted once a year as a special treat for those of you who appreciate flavorful, bottle conditioned ales with character.
Our Vintage Ale is a rich , dark and full-bodied ale with a fine and generous coffee-colored beige foam. It’s ready to enjoy right away and you may also wish to cellar a few bottles. It will evolve interestingly well, developing more complex flavors as the years go by. Keep the bottle upright in storage.
Brewed with a delicate balance of noble hops, roasted malts and spices, this is a remarkably smooth ale with a wonderfully complex finish. It is best served slightly chilled, around 53 degrees Fahrenheit and pairs exceptionally well with grilled salmon steaks, curried lamb, beef, or tuna au poivre. Crafted and bottled exclusively for Trader Joe’s.

Quarantine Beer #117 sampled at home on 05/07/2020. Dark brown with some mahogany around the edges, and a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily to a film. Small patches of lace. Yeast, fruit and malt in the nose. Medium to full body with flavors of Belgian yeast, caramel malt and dark fruit. The finish is fruity yeast and sweet malt. Pretty good overall.

Bomber, shared with Albert. Pours black, with a medium, bubbly, tan head. The aroma is apple pie spice, dates, molasses, and toasted oak. Sweet and syrupy, with a light bitterness. Medium body, with a lively, thick mouthfeel. This is a reasonably nice, spiced beer.

Dec. 2017 vertical at the Goose Island staff bottle share. The first bottle in our 2009-2017 vertical to show something "off." There may have either been a material infiltration, or it lay on its side and got corked. This just adds a note of funk to an otherwise malty beer series.

4th June 2016: 0.75 little cork and caged bottle into ’La Chouffe’ tulips. Really enjoyed this, as I did the 2014 version. Just a very good Belgian style dark ale that is brewed by a good brewery at a price that isn’t stupid. Wish I had thought to buy more and cellar them because I think the beer will mature and be even better in two/three years.

Brown color. Strong soap smell, not new in fake Strong Belgian Ales, metallic, anise. Moderately sweet, but also boozy; mess of soap and spices, so disgusting that it’s hard to even describe it.

Paid $6.99 for a 750 ml bottle, can’t bitch about the price on this one! Deep brown with lasting head retention that stayed as a white cap until the end of the glass. Aroma is mild dark fruit, light nutmeg, brown sugar, and Belgian yeast.
The base of the beer is brown sugar and yeast. Same reflection of spice and dark fruits as the aroma implies. Body is medium / borderline full. Again, I am nicely surprised. I should not be because Unibroue is solid.

Bottle shared tonight by Kelly and Paul, thanks. Deep mahogany with a huge tan head that persists. Rich dark pitted fruits with bits of bready caramel and toffee with plenty of earthy spicy to counter. Great beer.
