Bourbon Barrel Buffalo Sweat is the second barrel-aged release from Tallgrass Brewing Co. We took our award-winning oatmeal cream stout and aged it in bourbon barrels to create a rich, complex, medium-bodied beer with a chocolate-espresso flavor and aroma, and warm bourbon undertones.

Sampled from the tap at El Bait Shop. Pours black with a grayish brown head that dissipates completely. Aroma has lots of roasted malts with dark grains and a light bourbon note underlying. Flavor has roasted malts with sweet dark grains and a growing strong bourbon note as well as a bit of marshmallow.

12oz can into Blvd tulip. Head dies eventually with no clue that it ever existed. This is a pattern for Buffalo Sweat. Very fumey, thick dark malts but not roasted. Cold coffee brew aroma. Again, no barrel or bourbon to speak of. Flavor is cold coffee with mil black malt/coffee acidity. Its a strong tasting beer without the bloat but not strong at all. That probably makes no sense. I am also starting to think these "bourbon" barrels are 2nd, 3rd, or 4th run.

Pour is a thick black with a small creamy tan head. Aroma is a nice roast malt. Not a lot of the barrel but the roasted oats really shine. Flavor is a bit more from the barrel. A decent char wood with some vanillia and more of that nice roasted oat. Finish leaves a nice roast on the tongue. Pretty solid beer although the barrel aging was minimal. A good starter beer for those looking to get into barrel aged beers.

2015 Knoxville brewerβs Jam. Black pour with a tan head. Aroma of roast malt, coffee, chocolate and bourbon. Complex sipper, mostly sweet, not too much bourbon. Good body.
