In order to obtain a beer like no other, we have been adding whole sour cherries to our lambic for generations.

Our meeting with American importer Charles Finkel in the 1970s revolutionised the fruit beer segment. Charles convinced us to export our old kriek to the United States by boat. What we had not thought of is that the movement of the waves would reactivate the fermentation process and cause the corks to pop during the trip. It was like something out of The Adventures of Tintin. To prevent that from happening, we therefore developed an alternative production method for our kriek. We use fresh, not from concentrate, unsweetened cherry filtrate which we blend with lambic that is at least one year old before fermenting & macerating for up to 3 days and pasteurising the whole batch. So the corks don't pop.

Bottle at home. Dark red with bright dark pink head. Massive cherry candy on the nose. Aroma of sweet cherry oft drink, strawberry jam, vanilla, earthy, mint, herbs. Very sweet. Medium bodied. Not even radler level.

750 ml bottle. Mahogany red color. Small creamy light pink color. Tart cherry nose. Tangy yeasty cherry fruit flavor is quite refreshing. Sour dough bready flavor is quite unique. My favorite of the Lindeman fruit lambics.

Bottle at home. Pours dark ruby with frothy pink head. Aroma of sweet cherries and yogurt. Taste sweet with a little sourness, cherries dominating. Too sweet aftertaste.

355 mL foilded bottle poured. Pours a dark red color with a huge foamy pink head. Sweet wet cherry aroma. I don’t know. I guess I’m a suckered for these super sweet, cherry pie filling flavored beers. I love them. So easy to drink, and so full of fruit flavor. Enjoyed this like all the others. Good beer.

Lindemans Kriek, 2 bottles for 500 yen from Yamaya a pretty good deal I think. It pours a vivid pink before settling a dark purple in the glass with a pink head of foam. Fantastic nose of sweet maraschino cherries with some underlying lambic tartness. Light raspy carbonation. The taste is sweet dark syrupy cherries, tasty but sugary sweet. Somewhat like a Shirley Temple in that grenadine way but more syrupy. Delicious but not so beer like but a damn tasty drink. Could be more tart.

375 ml bottle from Beer Store Vienna.
Wine red body, with a small, pink head.
Aroma mainly of sweet cherries, with slight barnyard.
Taste is sweet, salty and slightly sour, also mainly of cherries.
Medium, quite creamy mouthfeel, with a lively carbonation.
Finishes sweet and salty, with cherries.

OK, but much too sweet for my liking. Also no real complexity or variety. Surely not a bad beer, but not what I want from a Lambic.

Flasche (75 cl).

Bottle split with James at his place, cheers to JF, 13/12/14. Pours cherry red with a decent crimson covering that dissipates then retains. Nose is cherry drops, cherry tinged straw, glazed cherries, all cherry fundom. Taste comprises more cherry vibes, a little tarter/sharper than the nose suggested, cherry drops, straw, light smoke. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Drinkable basic kriek model, a touch sweet, not on a par with the best of class.
