Belgian-Style Tripel Ale Brewed with Raspberries

Sparkleberry is an American interpretation of a Belgian Tripel brewed with raspberries.

Slightly tart, dry and spicy, it was originally brewed for release at Kalamazoo Pride in 2013, the same year it won a Bronze Medal at the Great American Beer Festival.

It has returned every year since drawing incredible praise at other Pride events, beer festivals and at our Pub.

Sparkleberry is a celebration of diversity and first debuted in cans for wider distribution in June, 2018. Sparkle on.

Fresh raspberry, biscuit malt, yeast, and straw aroma. Cloudy reddish amber with small off-white head. Mildly sweet raspberry, biscuit malt, slightly sour lactic acid, and mildly bitter straw flavor. Good body.

Pint can, 10/13/21. Red, large fizzy tan head, some chunks. Decent retention. Aroma of tart and sweet berry, a sweet malt note. Taste is cranberry, raspberry, bready malt. Booze well hidden.

Deep red body, thick, quickly dissipating pink head. Tart nose with raspberry/raspberry syrup. Body initially woody/tannic, tart, and dominated by raspberries. Sharply carbonated, spritzy mouthfeel with no syrupy heaviness. Solid beer.

Pours a deep pinkish red and smells of raspberries and yeast. It tastes of loads of raspberries with spicy Belgian yeast and malt. The finish is on the dry side. This is excellent.

Can. A- Raspberry, medicinal. A- Ruby red color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Rasbperry, cherry, dimetapp, medicine. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly boozy finish. O- This was straight up cough syrup. In fact, I'd rather drink some NyQuil than this. Blech.

Sample during the All Horse Parade on 09/08/2019. Clear purple-maroon color with a medium pinkish-white head that burns away quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lace. Aroma of raspberry, yeast and malt. Medium body with flavors of raspberries, Belgian yeast and doughy malt. The finish is fruity with a raspberry aftertaste. Decent overall.

Pounder: Funky raspberry nose, fairly strong. Ruby red, clear, medium pink head with little retention. Tangy raspberry, semi-sweet. Medium body, easy carbonation, warm. Pretty nice for a fruit beer, one-note but not overly sweet or tart.

Pint can, $3.50, Wine Warehouse. Pours magenta, clear, small pink head. Aroma is raspberry, green leaf. Flavor is tart raspberry, booze, glue, green leaf, yeast. Flavor is strange, for sure. Not sure I love it.
