Foudreweizen is a farmhouse wheat beer fermented in an oak foudre. It was created by taking Hefeweizen wort brewed at Live Oak, moving it across town to Jester King in portable tanks, racking the wort into an oak foudre at Jester King, pitching the wort with Live Oak’s Hefeweizen yeast, then allowing it to slowly transform and mature over the course of months in the presence of native yeast and bateria alive in the walls of Jester King’s foudre.

Keg at Man in The Moon, Stockholm Clear golden, small head. Tart woody nose with funky hay. Citric with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Citric and oaky, faint notes of banana and white bread. Vinegary. Low bitterness. Interesting and innovative.

750 ml. Pours hazy golden with minimal head. Aroma is brett, crackery, woody, lemony, lots of funk; the notes of clove, banana and bubblegum that I was looking forward to from that hefeweizen yeast show up quite a bit later after opening after it warms up in the glass. Taste is moderately sour (7/10), finishing lightly dry, with crackery, lemony, funky flavors. Crazy stuff, but it's good and it works.

Bottle split at the hotel lobby share post RB Best, Santa Rosa, 31/01/16 - thanks to Daniel. Murjy yellow gold with a decent off white head. Nose is tarte fruit, lemon curd, funk, pissy straw. Taste comprises damp wood, tarte citric whack, damp straw, funky, farmyard essence. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light sour edge. Ok drinkable sour but doesn’t get out of 2nd gear for me.

750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass; Batch #1, bottled 3/8/2015. Pours very hazy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart lemon, lime, orange, sour green apple, white grape, pepper, clove, light banana, hay, straw, wet musty funk, leather, oak, wheat, cracker, and yeast/oak earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast, oak, and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart lemon, lime, orange, sour green apple, white grape, pepper, clove, light banana, hay, straw, wet musty funk, leather, oak, wheat, cracker, and yeast/oak earthiness. Moderate amount of fruity/lactic tartness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, lime, orange, green apple, white grape, peppercorn, clove, hay, straw, wet musty funk, leather, oak, wheat, cracker, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast, oak, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from acidity/spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately acidic, and lightly creamy/bready/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible sour saison style! All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast, oak, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink with the balanced acidity. A really amazing offering.
