Probably from the Binny’s in Evanston. Brown with a creamy, beige head. Aroma of toast, hazelnut, chocolate. Taste is mildly bitter. Finishes earthy, very earthy, and full of oak with a lingering mix of bourbon and pronounced vanilla, so pronounced I’m thinking it must have been added, although it’s nowhere near cloying. Medium bodied with a slight wateriness, mild carbonation. Nice take on the style without the usual heaviness and booze.

Beer #3 (of 19) of my 9000th Beer Celebration [9 beers on both sides of #9000th itself]. Deep dark brown coloured body with slight clear glow on the side of just plain cola with a thinnish, very fast-dying off-white head that starts off at actually around three centimetres tall and fades to just about nothing a few seconds/minute later. Aroma of alcohol, bourbon, scotch, oak, burnt grains, cedar and a good deal of roasted malts, but only a small amount of sugars and of course nothing in terms of hops or soft qualities - this is strong and pungent in the nose at least. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence; Super strong vanilla, cream, lactose and cream soda flavours show up front with a lot of malts, but even more residual alcohol and sugars with a ton of the creamy, vanilla-y notes right behind and a deep rich bite from the malts, but also from the sugar. Aftertaste shows a nice sweet and pungent bourbon and whiskey scent with a good deal of butterscotch and strong bitterness from the oak and cedar notes with a lot of sweetness and residual sugars showing through as well, with a deep profile. Overall, a strong and pungent, especially in the early tastes and nose, beer with a lot of earthiness, grain, flowers and hay, but more of the oak, cedar and especially bourbon flavours that drive this one and make it deep, but not too overwhelming, but still tastes like more alcohol than ~7.0 per cent abv. I sampled this stubby, twelve ounce bottle, purchased from the Edelweiss Shop in Verona, Wisconsin on 24-September-2014 for US$3,00 by my Mom - thanks Mom for bringing this back with you, sampled a few weeks after returning from Madison as well, at my house here in Washington on 08-September-2021, sampled at my house here in Washington for Beer #3 (of 19) of my 9000th beer celebration [9 beers on both sides of #9000th itself].

12 oz bottle from De Bierkoning @ home. Twist off cap exploded from the bottle as I twisted it off, hitting a glass out of my spectacles, luckily I was wearing them or I would have missed an eye. Not gushing though. Deep red-brown color, clear. Big uneven beige head with good retention, sticking to the glass. Aroma’s of bourbon, vanilla, red fruits, light wood, sweet malts. Retronasal it’s sweet, red fruits, some bourbon/vanilla. Flavor is moderate to full sweet, vanilla. Light to medium bodied. A bit high carbo. Finishes with a bit of roasted malts, just hints of bitterness. Imo bourbon usually goes better with the higher strength beers, this was actually well done and went down well as a dessert.
