Bottle. Oaky bourbon and malt aroma. Clear chestnut with a small tan head. Nutty, brown sugar malt, bourbon/oak, and vanilla flavor with a light bitter finish. Full smooth body. I’ve been getting a little tired of the proliferation of big boozy bourbon barrel brews, and really enjoyed this lighter take on bourbon barrel aging.

A clear brown to amber ale with a thin lacing mocha head, In aroma, a sweet musty and nutty treacle malt, fruity esters, herbal notes, not bad. In mouth, a smooth sweet fruity malt with dark fruits, caramel, decent. Bottle at the Istmus Beer and Cheese, Jan 21 2012.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of foppa78. Thanks Mat! Dark brown appearance with a light brown head that dissipates fairly quickly. Quite toasty brown malty, moderate to heavy nuttiness (hazelnuts), caramel, toffee, very mild bourbon aroma. Toffee, nutty, toasty, brown malty, caramel, chocolate, very weak bourbon flavor. Excellent beer, though the bourbon elements are very mild.

Purchased at Breeze Thru Liquors in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed prior to my band playing w/ the band Victims (from Sweden). Appearance is a very nice dark, rubyish brown with a thin off white head that looks rather bubbly. Aroma a slight hint of bourbon, definitely malty, subdued but apparent, not really faint, a touch of sweet. Taste is great, smooth, you get the bourbon & oak flavor with a hint of vanilla, a noticeable touch of chocolate, has a nice bitterness to it. Other brown ales are mainly malty, and the bourbon offers a nice balance to the malts. This is a great brown ale.

12 ounce bottle courtesy of bertram. Thanks! Pours a clear reddish brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate and a hoppy finish. The taste is bourbon, chocolate, caramel, nutty notes and a faintly hoppy finish. Medium bodied. Well balanced. Nice beer.

Pours a cloudy brown with a minimal off white head that doesn’t stick around for very long but leaves some lacing on the way down. Aroma is a bit vinous, maybe I’m picking up a bit of the barrel. I smell some caramel and a little roast deep in the back. Taste is an oakey, boozy, malty affair. Finishes with a bit of bourbon and vanilla. Finished dry, medium to thin in body. Certainly an interesting brew although I think my bottle may be a bit old. I’d love to revisit this one fresh because I think it may be fantastic.
