Served all day long at colonial-era taverns, or ordinaries, cider was the refreshment of choice for Virginians of all classes and walks of life – man, woman, child, rich and poor. CHARRED ORDINARY is semi-sparkling and made from heirloom variety apples to create an old-fashioned Virginia cider, dry and sharp. It pairs well with salty hams and cheeses, rich poultry dishes, and other traditional Virginia fare.

On tap at Blue Bee, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out tart apple core, some champagne yeast and apple skins. Flavour is quite puckering, with tart apple core and some champagne yeast. Dry and lacking much depth. Alright.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazy gold with small white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is apple, mushroom, floral. Thin body, salt, mushroom, light pear, nice dry finish, very good.

Sampled at Wine Warehouse for Virginia Cider Week. Pours pale golden. Aroma is fresh tart apple, I want to say some sort of green, but I'm honestly not an apple expert. Flavor is crisp tart apple, juicy but never sweet. Good.

Sweet and tangy apple nose. Clear yellow. Dry and tart apple, crabapple, tannic. Light body, harsh mouthfeel, very effervescent. Very intense, not quaffable.

500ml bottle. Poured a clear yellow color, very brief, fizzy white head. Aroma was crisp apple. Light tart notes, some light sharp light smoke notes. Flavor was crisp and a touch dry. Light sweetness comes through in this one. Pretty tasty.

375ml bottle pours a clear gold with some ringing, fizzy head and plenty of carbonation. Nose is solid, white grape, moscato, green apples, tart juice, straw, maybe a little lemon-lime soda. Flavor is buttery and tart, just a tinge of sweetness to help round things out, some Chardonnay, lemon, green apple, lightly juicy. Crisp finish with just a little acid bite.
