A Saison (Say-Sahn) is a Belgian Farmhouse Summer Beer, referring to the simple fact that very small “farmhouse” breweries typically made these beers. Lighter in alcohol, ours is 7.5% (not exactly light but that’s just us!) and golden to orange in color and unfiltered. Ours is spiced with both Apricot puree and Black Pepper. The taste is light, refreshing and nicely fruited to start. Medium mouth-feel. After taking a drink, the black pepper dries the palate and creates a nice tingling sensation on the tongue.

Tap at the Watery Hole. Aroma is loads of apricot, peach too, no pepper. Very strong and boozy aroma. Taste is similar, some creaminess, fruit again, of course, maybe a touch of pepper at the end, but can hardly get it. Bit too full bodied for me.

750ml bottle pours a clear orange with some creamy, white head. Nose has apricot, green peppercorns, yeast, stone fruits. Flavor is candy sweet, orange, apricot, yeast. The DuPont yeast is so prevalent. Slick finish.

750ml bottle. The beer is a light gold. Liquid is moderately hazy. Fairly large white head. Puffs up nicely with fine bubbles. Some lacing, good retention. The aroma is quite nice. Sweet apricots on top of muted peppercorns. The barrel is medium-light in strength but adds a nice level of complexity to the beer with grapes, mild pleasant butter and light oak. Just a hint of sourness. The taste has moderate tartness. A bit less apricot flavor. A bit more pepper, a bunch more oak. Finish has more bitterness than I’d prefer. It’s pleasant but could use a bunch more stone fruit juiciness. Light-medium body. Lower carbonation than expected. Fairly soft feel. Solid apricot sour.

Nicely hazy and dirty orange. Bit of foam. Fruity aroma, some sour notes but not too much of them. Taste is nicely funky, farmhouse style. Fruity and has still some malty backbone. Long malty and reward finish. Pretty nice actually.
