A-BIG-ALE was the first canned Belgian brew from Sixpoint…

a wholly sanctified and indubitably bonafide high gravity elixir. Traditional Belgian yeast and candi sugars ensure a zealous fermentation, classic dark fruit flavors and a big ABV. We’re not religious about beer styles though, so we dosed this sucker with loads of American hops.

Lemongrass nose. Clear copper, thick firm billowy yellow head, great lacing. Whole orange, lemongrass accents, brief and subtle strawberry note at midpalate. Orange peel finish. Medium body, easy carbonation, alcohol not noticeable. Fruity but mainly from the hops, esters are not as prevalent as I expected for this style. Rather indistinguishable from just a very well made IPA.

Pours dark ruby-tinged mahogany into a tulip. White head with medium retention recedes to nothing. Sweet summer pit fruit and resin aromas. Sweet molasses and toffee upfront turning to bitter earth in the lasting finish.

12 oz. can purchased at Beer Store, Nashua for a price of $2.25. Mostly clear Amber color with fast dying head in a snifter. Aroma shows a mild Belgian yeast with the pine hops and hop oil I tend to find in Six Point brews.

The flavor has a base of caramel/ bready malts with the pine hops completely over running the light amount of Belgian yeast. I almost get the yeast flavor but then the pine hops kick in and that is all that is left after the swallow. The body is on the very thin side without any yeast present. I get what the brewer is going for ( a hoppy Belgian ale) but how can you have that if the hops over run the little bit of yeast that is here? Meh
