Can from a shop in St Andrews. Nose is pear drops, stewed fruit, fruit cake, hint of caramel, almonds; fades quickly but very nice.

Taste is really disappointing. Dry slightly woody opening, dates, leading faint hint of sweetness and pair drops leading to a slightly acidic and peppery dry finish. It's on the cusp of drain pour. Very thin

I don't know if I have a bad can, or if its aging very badly.

Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 15/05/2026.
Deep mahogany brown topped with a lasting beige cap.
Nose is stewed fruits, caramel, fruit cake mix, hint of marzipan.
Taste comprises dates, figs, tangy fruits, fruit cake, light spice, booze tunes, caramel.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Okay sipper but not much about it ... generously swayed from 7.1 to 7.3 on my part ... was a 7.2 if I could!

440ml can. Pours a hazy amber with a small beige head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, dried fruits, brown bread, biscuit. Taste is sweet, caramel, toffee, biscuity and nutty malts, brown bread, dried fruits. Medium bodied.
The flavours are there but somehow they don't seem to mesh well together and/or are a little muted. Maybe age will improve it? Maybe not?

Keg at Lost in Leith. Pours hazy amber to brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of toffee, honeycomb, faint spice. Taste has a light green note, more toffee and sticky raisin. Chewy finish, bit gnarly.

Cans from The Beerhive and Drinkmonger. Hazy amber/brown body with a thin beige head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of honey, boiled sweets and rye bread. Flavour of orange and honey with a slightly sharp finish. Medium body with a slick mouthfeel. Soft fizz. A tangy and slightly peppery barley wine. It’s fine but slightly muted. I’d love to see new barley wines released more regularly.

Can. A mild haze on this fairly deep amber beer, small bubbly pale tan head that doesn't last that long. Airy palate, mildly dry. modest fine carbonation, overall I would say this is a tad thin for the style. Chevalier malts provide that chewy wet grain nutty goodness. Some mild and pretty ripe citrus. Esters and a light and semi dry finish. Chevalier malts, wonderful as they are, do not provide a solo effort sufficient to present as a barleywine. Needs more maturity, depth and complexity. And, certainly less esters

Can shared by my bro. It pours clear oily orangey - brown with a small off - white head. The aroma is rich and bready, brown bread, cereal, nuttiness, toasty grains, malt loaf, oat cakes, ryvita and digestive biscuit. The taste is drying, toothy, chewy, brown bread, biscuit, cereal, bitter - sweet character, nuttiness, well hidden alcohol, muted honey, some dried fruits, raisin, sultana and oatcake with a dry, toasty finish. Medium+ body, average carbonation and oily mouth feel. Not big and showy, but subtle and balanced. Stupidly drinkable.
