Dark ebony, undetermined clarity. Tan head immediately fizzles away to nothing.
Rich, nutty, fruity chocolate in the nose mixes with a good deal of acidity that seems to set Bottle Logic apart from a lot of the other dessert stout makers out there. Vanilla, light raisin, prune, toffee and a healthy dose of spicy bourbon. It's big, it's bold, it's rich but it's not too excessive on toasted oak (no big pina colada-like notes) nor is it messy, sharp, boozy from the nose. Perhaps a bit dominant on the chocolate theme, but that seems rather inevitable given what they are going for here.
In the mouth it's soft, rich, sweet, very malty and finds light balance from bready, nutty, dry baker's chocolate and acidity from the dark malts, while also possessing engaging carbonation. Light dryness from oak/bourbon and light alcohol warmth with rich chocolate, raisin and caramel flavors are lingering long. Pretty good stuff; I certainly wouldn't ever drink these beers outside of a beer fest or tasting, but if you accept that these monstrous dessert stouts are a thing, I think Bottle Logic is definitely one of the better makers of them.
