Bottle, about a year old I think. Deep clear maroon color with ruby highlights, beige head, with decent retention and solid lacing. Aroma of caramel on toast. Taste has plums, burnt caramel, sweet candied figs, dates. Nice character and complexity.

Bomber from Whole Foods Short Pump. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a thin fizzy tan head. Poor head retention. Aroma of toffee malts, banana, cocoa. The taste is stone fruits, cherries, toffee, banana, herbal hops in the finish. Medium bodied, low carbonation, subtle booze. Decent beer. --- Beer merged from original tick of Magella Belgian Strong Dark Ale on 10 Apr 2013 at 15:23 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8. Raisin. prune, and apple, with banana highlights. Cloudy rust, colored, thin head. Raisin and prune flavor. Clove is present. A very wheaty belgian, reminiscent of Aventinus, but not quite as good. Quite enjoyable, regardless, and just what I was in the mood to have this evening.

World of Beer, Arlington tap: Two drunk guys walked into WOB and asked for the most alcoholic beer on tap. They were served this. They couldn’t really handle it, so they asked for Baltika #9 afterwards I decided to try it. Anyway, it pours a hazy reddish color with a small head. Aroma is candied sugar, fruit, and surprisingly little booze. Taste is really sweet and sort one dimensional, which isn’t to say that this beer lacks all subtlety. The alcohol is amazingly well covered and for such a massive beer, this is pleasantly easy to drink. That being said, this really isn’t my style, as it is much too sweet.
