Couple of pitchers at Bier Baron DC. Pours a translucent deep brown with some creamy, clumpy off white head. Nose is very solid, roasted malts, cracker, toasted bread crust, spicy rye, dark chocolate. Flavor follows, only mild sweetness, a lot of chewy bread character, roastiness, mild dark chocolate, a little black pepper. Medium bodied, dry finish.

Pours mahogany tinged black into a Sam glass. Soapy mocha head with little retention recedes to sicken surface. Dark caramel and pumpernickel aromas. Medium bodied and dry with chocolate and rye front to back. Lasting espresso finish.
