Nice brown coloured body with a thick, three centimetre tall deep brown head. Aroma of malt, sugar, wort and some unfinished lactose. Light-bodied; Mildish milk character with a bit of biscuity malt and some subdued cherry and soft fruit flavours. Aftertaste shows a touch of complexity with no real hop profile, but some soft malts and nice milk flavours make this interesting, at least, but not memorable nor really worth trying. Overall, a decent beer that is soft and rounded but not showing too much, throughout. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 08-November-2014 for US$2,25 sampled at home in Washington on 10-January-2015.

Earl of Essex. Keg. Almost opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is airy, semi dry and minerally crisp. Very mild dark malts, good fruity tang, dark fruits that is. Whisper of citric orange hops before a crisp finish. Simple stuff but goes down easy.

Keg at the Earl of Essex, 19/11/14. Light black with a decent tan swirl. Nose is tangy fruit rinds, woody notes, treacle toffee, lactic notes. Taste comprises light charr, farmy notes, dark toffee, tangy red berry notes, lactic licks. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok stuff, could almost have it as a dark saison.
