The Gose is an uncommon style in modern times. An unfiltered wheat ale, brewed with a bit of salt. While salt seems like an unlikely ingredient, the result is a dry, scipy, lightly fruity flavorful beer.

Bottle: (2013) Nearly clear yellow-gold with a white head. Grain, salt, fruit aroma. Flavour is nicely salted citrus...almost a red apple-peel note to it. A little yeastiness, lemon. Really good.

Bottle. Floral lemon malt, light salt, and musty yeast aroma. Golden yellow with large white head. Fairly strong salt flavor up front followed by lemon malt and very dry hay flavor. Floral aftertaste. Good body. A very dry beer.

Sampled via bottle at WTWBA 2014. 2013 version. Surprisingly sweet. Spices and some herbal quality. Not sour or even lightly tart at all, but there is some salt.

Refrigerated 75 cl brown 2013 bottle poured into a glass. Pours clear golden with small white head which dissipates very quickly. Aroma is light brine, medium/light body, softer texture, and well carbonated, and little lacing. Taste is tart brine. Expected better taste, but may be a bit better fresher.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2013 vintage bottling. Pours fairly crystal clear bright gold color with a 2 finger foamy white head with solid retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, wheat, coriander, pepper, herbal, floral, grass, sea salt, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spice/salt, and pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, coriander, pepper, wheat, herbal, floral, grass, sea salt, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Light earthy yeast spiciness with slight tartness/salinity on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, coriander, pepper, wheat, herbal, floral, grass, sea salt, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spice/salt, and pale malt notes; with solid robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.4%. Overall this is a nice Gose, very pleasant. Good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spice/salt, and pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Bottle - Perfumy, salty and tropical fruit. Pale gold with a thin head. Perfumy and sweet, very little tartness or salt. The perfumy nose and flavour just isn’t right for this style.

Bottle drunk 4/6/14
White head tops a slightly-hazed golden body. Retention is moderate to low.
Tons of coriander and white pepper-like notes in the nose with a fair amount of citrus. Kind of like sugar coated lemons. Just a brief touch of lactic character, mostly drowned out by the citrus and coriander. Hint of bubblegum, some vanilla. Medium strength overall, with no flaws.
Juicy, wet, expansive in the mouth with a sugary, not quite as attenuated as it should be flavor of vanilla and honey. Lots of grassiness from the coriander and whatever spices were used. Some dry, saltiness and faint acidity/tartness with an almost tangerine-like finish that is still just a tad too sweet. Not a bad stab at the style, and it’s certainly drinkable, but as Cisco is oft to do, they’ve got too much else going on (citrus, herbs, spices). Very simple, could use a good deal more tartness.

Bottle thanks to Clark. Pours cloudy yellow gold with white head. Nose and taste of lemon, salt, sea salt, salted wheat and salted creamed banana. Some spice. Fennel? Basil? Lighter body. A touch heavy on the salt, but decent.

Wow. This is an incredible beer and I had no warning. I’m not entirely sure this is what a gose is supposed to be but it’s certainly everything a gose could be. Pours an unassuming golden blonde with fizzy head and lacing. Aroma of hibiscus florals, light citrus and light pepper. Even notes of tangerine, ginger and crisp malt. Taste is uncanny. Finishes with balanced sweetness and salt. When I went to order another one, the beer tapped out at Novare Res.
