Abita Strawgator™ is the fusion of Strawberry Harvest Lager sweetness with the bite of Andygator. This golden lager is made with malted barley and wheat. It is hopped with German Perle hops for a delicate hop flavor. After filtration, generous amounts of fresh Louisiana strawberry juice are added, giving the beer a pleasant sweet taste and armoa, as well as a rich golden color and slight cloudiness.

Bottle. Clear yellow color, white head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of fruity ketones, light dust, perfume. Taste is sweet and fruity, like strawberry candy. The fruit clashed with the lager, not really a good combo.

22 ounce bottle into lager glass, best before 2/18/2015. Pours slightly hazy bright golden color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lightly tart/juicy strawberry, cracker, bread, honey, herbal, grass, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Awesome aromas with great balance of strawberry, pale malt, and earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of lightly tart/juicy strawberry, wheat, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Moderate herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of strawberry, wheat, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome robustness and balance of strawberry, pale malt, and earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Extremely clean flavors as well. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly syrupy mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible fruited Helles bock! All around awesome balance and robustness of strawberry, pale malt, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Strawberry malt aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet strawberry malt flavor. An okay fruit beer but absolutely no doppelbock characteristics at all outside of the ABV.

Sample at Pint House. Pours a slightly hazy yellow-gold color with a thin white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of strawberry and biscuit malt. Medium-bodied with a strawberry character backed up with bready malt and slight spice. The finish is fruity with a strawberry and toasted malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Location: Draft at Ginger Man (NYC), 8/15/13

Aroma: This one has a nose that is dominated by strawberry candy
Appearance: Pours a mostly clear gold color with a small head
Flavor: It pretty much has just a sweet candy flavor, not much else
Palate: It has a medium body, a smooth and clean feel, with a sticky finish
Overall Impression: This one was super sweet, but not terrible. I've certainly has worse overly sweet fruit beers.
