’Tarwedubbel’ from this brewery, originally marketed as Saint-Monon 1673 and tasted as such years ago, but now apparently sold as Saint-Monon Blanche (at least at ZBF). Thin, creamy head and hazy peach blonde colour; aroma of soapy wheat, lemon zest, coriander but luckily more subtle than in all those Hoegaarden clones, white bread, sour berries, melon, aniseed, orange peel. Crisp taste, smooth with a fruity sourishness, ’deep’ wheat sourishness too, citrus fraîcheur somewhere as well as bittering spiciness, smooth, honeyish malts, hoppier than expected (as is often the case in these artisanal Wallonian witbiers), with subtle but noticeable bitterness. This is not going to push the limits of this particular style, but it is well-crafted and does show some personality. In any case much better than that Saint-Monon en Fêtes failure...

25/IV/15 - on tap as St. Monon Blanche (but was presented with the 1673 label when asking for more information) @ ZBF 2015 (Leuven) - BB: n/a (2015-507) Thanks to the Belgian ratebeer crew for sharing today's beers!

Clear yellow to blond beer, no head. Aroma: sweet, very fruity, spicy, lots of coriander. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very spicy, lots and lots of orange peel, coriander, little bitter, some weird fake lemon flavour, like toilet freshener. Aftertaste: soapy, orange peel, coriander, pretty unbalanced.

33cl, BB 11-2011, huge gusher, lost 1/2 upon opening. Dorée, brumeuse, mousse blanche, bulles type champagne disparaissant vite. Arôme est sympa, mais fort sucré, signe de bcp trop de sucre résiduel, expliquant les problèmes à l’ouverture. Note de pelure d’orange. Bière est bien sucrée, aspect fermenté avec un beau profile aromatiques Côté sucré, caramel, sucre brun avec une pointe de noisette sur la fin, aussi à note pelure orange.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. An almost clear, golden beer with a small, off-white head. Slightly sourish on the nose, with citrus, nice fruity hops and some malts. Fruity falvor with some spices. Citrus and bitterness. Smooth, but a bit papery mouthfeel, full-bodied, nicely carbonated and with a little alcohol burn. Bitter, fruity finish. A quite nice one, but not top notch. 091024

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, golden colour with a medium-sized, not very persistent frothy white head. Sweet malty, slightly wheaty and moderately citrus-fruity aroma with a tinge of barnyard and present notes of coriander. Sweet and moderately sour flavour, pretty slim bodied for 7.0% abv, slightly sparkling carbonation. Light to moderate wheat-character with citric and yeasty notes and moderate coriander spice; dry and moderately fruity finish with spicy notes; the alcohol is well-hidden. I expected a kind of Witbier-bock, but received a pretty rounded, slim but nevertheless tasty and refreshing Wit. 17.I.10

Bottle, 7%. Good fruity aroma, smells nicely sweet. Hazy yellow colour. Small white head. The flavour is nicely sweet, quite flowery from the hops. Some clove. Refreshing.
