My very first Stoudt. Slight sweet toffee aroma. Darker than your typical pale yellow american beer. Not bitter on the hit and no bitter finish but, had just a little teeny bitter linger.

Poured a clear watery orange with no head. Strange aroma, grainy but not very pleasant. Flavor was better though, slighty malty with a nice solid hop flavor at the finish. Grainy mouth feel with a bitter after taste. Slow start, nice finish with the hop flavor.

Clearish coppery body, thin off-white head. Grassy, herbal aroma, perfumey, with little malt character. Body is toasty with a cerealy Cheerios character, drier than sweet, backed by herbal, grassy, bitter hops. Strong carbonation. Reminds me more of an Irish Ale than an Oktoberfest. Pleasant but watery.

Bottle consumed on 10/20/2005. Pours a amber-copper color, with a nice glowing blood orange sheen to it. Clear, with a small, fizzy off-white/beige colored head that quickly recedes to ring. Medium-sized bubbles rise. Hard to tell if this is bottle conditioned or force-carbonated. The flavor/mouthfeel suggests forced-carbonation, though not overly so. Strange, I can usually tell pretty easily. Aroma just pours on the berry skins. Pure, sweet/tart blackberries and boysenberries. Strange, only one other person on this page talks about berries in the nose. That’s pretty much all I smell, but everyone interprets things differently, so I guess it’s not so strange. Maybe some dry toffee in the background as well. Flavor is VERY dry, probably overattenuated, though I’m no judge, so I honestly don’t know where the attenuation should be. But this has got to be like 90% attenuated. The alcohol lurks in the shadows. Nuts and berries with some light hops and a good deal of fruitiness. Very dry and lightly bready on the finish. Again, not terribly crisp on end, not nearly what I would like it to be, anyways. Mouthfeel is tending towards sharp carbonation, otherwise fairly uneventful. Body is medium-light.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Apparently Stoudt’s is the first Pennsylvanian micro brewery offering us beer, food, wine and....antiques...! Dark amber, slightly hazy. Extremely nice, nutty character. Low on carbonation, high on personality. Quite obviously from a small brewery the puts good quality up front. Though it’s supposed to be German in style I mostly get the impression of something British.

A solid example of this style. +++Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle the beer poured a bronze color with a small tan head. The aroma was sweet and malty. The flavor was strong malt, a hint of hops and a mild nutty taste on the finish. There was also a bit of a sour tang on the finish. A solid though not spectacular beer.

Fantastic brown colour with a nice dense off-white head which seems to last for a bit. Aroma of pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, malt and caster sugar. The initial taste is very metallic followed by a bit of the aromas picked up in the smell. The aftertaste is purely malty with little else. The appearance and aroma are simply great, and I expected the taste to be equally as good, but unfortunately it wasn't. A decent beer, but not as good as it could have been. Worth trying if you can find...because Stoudt's doesn't bottle too many 12 ouncers! Overall it is an average Marzen, but there are many better beers that you could try...so pass this up unless you've had all the better ones from the Mid-Atlantic region. I bought my twelve ounce bottle from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia.

Amber coloured. Neutral aroma. Very much dominating crystal malt flavour....

The description above is very accurate, so I won't bother repeating it here. A very drinkable and enjoyable beer, but lacking in character, and thus not an entertaining beer.
