Our tribute to the greatest race in the world’s visit to our home county and the perfect reward for long days in the saddle. The Magic Spanner: The situation where a mechanic in a support vehicle will appear to be making adjustments to the bike but in reality, they are giving fatigued riders a break by holding onto the car and getting a massive push-off when the commissaries get too close.

Keg tap at the Kingston Arms, Cambridge. Yellow but not quite straw. Slightly hazy with a thin white head. Pink grapefruit and tangerine notes in the scent, but there’s a nice malty base. Bittersweet juicy taste. Fruity hops dominate but don’t run rampant. The all-too-short finish is more balanced. Nice little golden from a great UK brewery.

Cask at Cloisters. Clear golden body with a thin white head. Good lacing. Aroma of dried grass and grain. Flavour of sorrel and lemon. Thin body with a smooth texture. Simple and swiggable but ultimately forgettable.
