Pounder from Appalachian. No date. Chilled & ready for my pint glass at home. Tall & sticky, lingering bleached head. Half hazy, medium pale gold. Very soapy, floral nose; too soapy. Semi-sweet apple, orange, light floral honey, nectar, strong acid, decent co2, thin, baby powder finish. Almost good.

Postmodern hoppy Helles of sorts (classified here as IPL), brewed in Bavaria by what is one of the relatively scarce progressive (U.S.-inspired) craft breweries there, but also one of the most successful of Germany. From tap at the New Year’s reception of the Ghent beer club. Huge, foamy, snow white, very moussey and dense, creamy head on a misty pale straw blonde robe with greenish tinge. Aroma of drying white bread, field flowers, dry hay, grass, unripe pear, wet flour, gypsum, green apple peel note. Quite fruity for this style, with hints of ‘green’ fruit like unripe pear and green banana, though obviously not as estery as a classic top-fermented beer; medium carb, supple and somewhat creamy body, supple pale maltiness, white-bready and cereally, sweetish in a subdued way, rounded, in the end bittered by herbal (thyme, parsley) and very floral hops, providing an elegant light bitterness, very soft and gentle as it ought to be in this genre – while pale malt sweetishness prevails. A bit yeastier and hoppier than the more classic examples of the Helles style (think Paulaner Original Münchener Hell, Löwenbräu Münchener Original or Hofbräu Münchener Original) and in that sense indeed related to IPL, but still restrained enough to qualify as a true Bavarian Helles too so ending up somewhere in the middle between both styles – in any case a perfectly streamlined lager that goes down like water…

Tangerine, biscuit malt, orange peel, and grass aroma. Hazy paley yellow with small white head. Very sweet orange-lemon, biscuit malt, and moderately bitter orange peel/grass flavor. Good body.

Canned (from K-Market Kapteeninkatu, Vaasa). Yellowish golden colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is fruity, some grassy, herbal and bready tones. Flavour is floral, some elderflower, grass, bready and herbal tones. Much more fresh tasting than Helles.

Lots of grapefruit here, but tastes more like a bretta grapefruit. Not sure this beer survived the trip across the pond in good form. Pours golden with decent head. Crackery grapefruit snappy bitter in finish, a decent dose of sourness. Can.

At Borefts , light hazy pale gold, grapefruit and pomelo, light but noticable malty backbone, a bit of wax, medium empathic bitterness. Really good.
